Description

Carmelite House is a former almshouse for Hull Trinity House, now used as offices. It was built in 1828 by Charles Mountain the Younger and has undergone some alterations in the mid-20th century. The building is finished in painted stucco, and its roof is not visible. It features a plinth and an entablature with a coped parapet. The structure is two storeys high and has a range of thirteen windows. The end bays are highlighted by giant Doric columns in antis, adorned with metope and triglyph friezes.

On the first floor, there are thirteen 12-pane sash windows, with the central window featuring a moulded surround. Below, steps with low balustrades lead to a central stucco doorcase that includes double fielded 8-panel doors, flanked by five windows on either side. All openings are topped with cornices supported by scroll brackets. Above the door, there is a block inscribed "Carmelite House," along with similar plain blocks above the end windows.
