Description

Rockliffe House, formerly known as Beech Holme, is located on Beverley Road in Kingston upon Hull. This building was constructed in 1864 and converted in 1920. It features yellow brick with ashlar dressings and plain tile roofs, including a single gable and two side wall stacks, one of which has triple flues. Designed in the Gothic Revival style, it has a plinth, moulded brick dentillated eaves, and coped gables. The house is two storeys plus attics and has a three-window range.

A central square tower, which has two stages, is topped with a concave pyramidal pantile roof adorned with cast-iron railings and wind vanes. On the first floor, there is a round-arched French window with a pointed-arched hoodmould, and above it, a single lancet window. Below the tower, a portico features a traceried balustrade and a Tudor arched opening flanked by octagonal piers, leading to moulded four-panel double doors with an overlight.

To the left, a projecting gable contains a three-light mullioned window with a segmental hoodmould, and above it, there are a pair of single lancets. Below this, a square bay window with a traceried balustrade is accompanied by a three-light mullioned window. Both the bay window and portico have mid-20th century metal railings for a fire escape. To the right, there is a set-back bay with a three-light mullioned window on the lower floors, featuring a traceried band between the windows, and again, a pair of single lancets above.

Inside, the entrance hall is marked by a depressed segmental arch.
