Description
The Church of Saint Mary Magdalene and Saint Helena is a church that was probably founded in the mid-12th century and rebuilt in 1810 using older materials. It is constructed of brick with a cladding of coursed squared rubble and cobbles. The church features a two-bay nave and a one-bay chancel. The nave has two pointed windows with brick heads and small keystones. There is a west door made up of six raised and fielded panels set in a round-headed opening, also turned in brick. The chancel has an east window with three stepped lancets, which is now in ruins. Inside, there is a triple stepped chancel arch, with a pointed chamfered central arch on cylindrical piers, flanked by similar, lower arches on cylindrical responds with moulded abaci. The church was in a ruinous state at the time of the re-survey.
