Description
The Church of St Andrew is a church with medieval origins in its tower and one reused 15th-century window, but it was largely constructed between 1876 and 1877 by Armfield and Bottomley. The building is made of rubble with brick and ashlar dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof. It features a two-stage west tower, a four-bay nave with a south porch, and a two-bay chancel with a single-bay north vestry.
The tower has round-arched openings on the first stage and a decorative band. The second stage includes twin-light pointed bell openings in round-arched surrounds on each side, with a string course and a low parapet, topped by a pyramidal roof. The nave has a wooden south porch set on a plinth, with a board door that features a pointed chamfered surround and quoined jambs. Pointed lancets are present throughout the structure, and the stone copings are adorned with a large finial.
The chancel's south side has two lancets, while the north side includes the vestry and a reused twin-light, straight-headed Perpendicular window. The east end has a three-light pointed window with geometric tracery at the top, and the stone copings feature a ridge cross. Decorative brick bands enhance both the nave and chancel. Inside, the plain interior includes a pointed double-chamfered chancel arch supported by corbels of short pairs of columns with foliate capitals. A reused medieval tub font sits on an octagonal base.
