Description
This sundial, located approximately 10 metres south of Whitgift Hall, dates from the 18th century, with a base added in the 19th to 20th century. It is made of limestone and features a brass dial and gnomon. The sundial has a circular moulded base that supports a bulbous baluster-shaped shaft, which is adorned with foliate relief carving on the lower section. The neck of the shaft flares out to a moulded top. The dial is inscribed with hours, months, compass points, and the maker's name: Joseph Cox, Barbican, London. It stands in the centre of a flower bed to the south of Whitgift Hall.
