Description
Ivy House is an early 19th-century house of brown brick with a pitched pantile roof. The gables have coping on cut ashlar kneelers. The house is two storeys high and features three sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor. There are two canted bays on the ground floor. The front door has six fielded panels, a dentilled transom, an oblong fanlight with glazing bars, and is set within a moulded wooden frame with a modillioned cornice. A one-story wing extends to the rear, featuring a pitched and sprocketed pantile roof and cut ashlar kneelers.
Inside, there is a Regency staircase with a balustrade that curves spirally around the newel post. Two early 19th-century marble fireplaces are located in the ground floor rooms. The house was likely built by James Iveson, a former Mayor of Hedon and member of the family who built New Hall; he resided here from 1807 and collected sculpture for the garden. It was later the home of G R Park, the Hedon historian.
