Description
Pit Top Farmhouse and the adjoining walls date from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of pinkish-brown brick in Flemish bond, featuring ashlar dressings and a pantile roof. It has a central hallway plan and stands two storeys high with three bays and an outshut to the rear, flanked by walls on either side. The ends and between the bays are adorned with pilasters. The central entrance consists of a six-fielded-panel door with a fanlight, set in a plain doorcase with a hood. The windows are 12-pane sashes throughout, each set under flat brick arches. There is a two-course band at the first floor and an eaves band. The building has end stacks, and the walls on either side rise towards the house from square end piers, which also feature pilasters on the house-side ends. The piers are topped with brick and ashlar copings and ball finials.
