Description
The gatepiers located approximately 50 metres south-west of Boynton Hall date back to around 1700. They are constructed from red brick with stone dressings and have a square plan. The gatepiers feature moulded bases, rusticated quoins, and an architrave that is enriched with bead and pellet detailing. They have a deep moulded cornice and a stepped, chamfered pyramidal cap topped with a goblet finial. There are brick pilastered rebates for gates, with the left pilaster retaining a scrolled capital. A drawing by Samuel Buck from 1720 illustrates these gatepiers positioned opposite the garden-front entrance to Boynton Hall.
