Description
This is a medieval cross, likely from the early 14th century, located approximately one metre east of the east wall of the Church of St Martin in Lowthorpe. It is made of sandstone and features a tapering pillar topped with a Maltese cross that has fluted edges and a central rosette. The rosette is similar to those found on the chancel arch of the nearby Church of St Martin. This cross is believed to be the Kilham market cross, which was moved to Lowthorpe during a time of plague in that village. It is scheduled as an Ancient Monument.
