Description
The secondary western gates to Flaybrick Hill Cemetery, located adjacent to the western cemetery lodge, were built in 1864 by Lucy and Littler. These gates feature stone gate piers and cast-iron gates. The gate piers, which serve both the main and side gates, are set in a flanking wall and have a chamfered plinth and raking coping. The polygonal gate piers are topped with stepped tapered caps that have finials. The piers are decorated with incised quatrefoils that include the date and the initials BIC, representing the Birkenhead Improvement Commission. The cast-iron gates are designed with twisted shafts that end in arrowheads and include quatrefoil panels.
