Description
The former stables to Thornton House, built in 1895 by Grayson and Ould, are now two houses. Constructed from red and buff stone with a tiled roof, the main range is a single storey with an attic and consists of five bays, with additional one-storey return ranges. The stonework features a random pattern and includes a ground floor sill course. The windows have leaded casements, while the first floor has dormers with coped gables and kneelers. The second, third, and fifth bays contain two-light double-chamfered-mullioned windows, while the others likely originally had loading doors. There is a 20th-century entrance in the fourth bay. The left return has roughcast at the end and a carriage entrance with 20th-century glazing, a segmental-headed window, and a roof dormer above with a pyramidal roof. The right return, which is one bay, serves as the main range with a garage extension. Two battered stacks are present. The outer facade features casement windows, and one corner has a round turret with a conical roof adjacent to a timbered gable and a lean-to porch. This building is included for its group value.
