Description
This is a commercial building located at 273-277 and 281 Lord Street in Southport, dated 1895 on the parapet and altered over time. It is constructed of red brick with sandstone dressings and designed in the Renaissance style.
The building features four and three storeys with two plus two bays. The ground floor has 20th-century shops on either side of a foot passage. The upper floors are pilastered, and the left half has a shaped gable. There are four wooden canted oriels with arched centre lights, and a modillioned cornice runs across the top. The first and fourth oriels are two-storeyed and topped with red tiled pentice roofs supported by brackets. The upper lights of the right-hand pair of oriels and the windows above them contain original geometrical stained glass. The third-floor windows on the left side have round-headed lights. Above the second and third-floor windows, there are two panels featuring gilded floral tiles. The parapets of both sections include carved segmental pediments, with the date 1895 displayed on the second section and monograms on the others.
The interior has not been inspected.
