Description
22 and 24 Hoghton Street is a pair of villas, now used as offices, built in the mid-19th century and altered since. They are constructed of red brick with painted stone dressings and feature a slate roof in an Italianate style. The building has a U-shaped plan formed by a double-depth main range with receding wings.
The exterior is two storeys high with a six-window range and a symmetrical facade. The windows are arranged in a pattern of 1:2+2:1, and there are rusticated quoins, a sill band on each floor, a broad band over the first floor, and a mutuled cornice that extends across the entire structure, topped with pedimented gables on the wings. The main range contains four 2/2 sash windows with moulded architraves on each floor. Each wing features a canted bay window with a dentilled cornice and round-headed 1/1 sash windows, while the first floor has sash windows similar to those in the main range, enhanced with segmental pediments on consoles. The building has cut-down ridge chimneys.
Entrances are located on the return side of each wing, featuring projected pilastered and corniced architraves. The interior has not been inspected.
