Description
The Crown Hotel is a public house built in 1905, designed in the Art Nouveau style. It is constructed of brick with stucco and marble facing on the ground floor. The building stands three storeys high with an attic and features two sets of three bays. The ground floor has segmental arches set between flat pilasters, topped with a cornice. The openings include entrances that are flanked by windows. The first and second floors have bowed stucco bays positioned between pilaster strips, and there is a stucco entablature above. The attic features lunettes within elaborate architraves, and there is a swept parapet between the ends of the pilaster strips, finished with stone coping. The return to Skelhorn Street is similar, with the first bay displaying an elaborate panel with the lettering: "WALKERS ALES WARRINGTON." Inside, the hotel boasts richly moulded coffered ceilings, two fireplaces, original bars, and engraved glass.
