Description
This listing describes a terrace of 13 houses located at 32 to 54 Hornby Road, which includes No. 1 Hornby Place. The houses were built in the 19th century and are constructed from brick with stone dressings and feature a slate roof. Most of the buildings are two storeys high, although the end bay and Nos. 44 and 46 are three storeys tall and have projecting bays with blocking courses and hipped roofs.
The windows are segmental-headed with recessed reveals, although most of the sash windows were removed in 1984. The entrances are round-headed and currently lack doors, also due to changes made in 1984. The recessed bays have rectangular bay windows topped with continuous lean-to roofs that serve as canopies for the entrances. The end bay connects to No. 1 Hornby Place, which has three bays and a central round-headed entrance. Originally, the terrace was designed to be symmetrical like Nos. 2 to 30 Hornby Road, but three houses appear to have been demolished at the left-hand end.
