Description
The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts is a school built in 1835 by architect A.H. Holme, featuring later alterations and additions. Constructed from stone, the building is two storeys high with a basement and consists of nine bays in a Greek Revival style. It has clasping pilasters and an entablature, with the three central bays projecting forward behind a tetrastyle Ionic colonnade. An inscription on the entablature reads "LIVERPOOL INSTITUTE," while a later addition states "AND SCHOOL OF ARTS, 1825." The windows are sashed and do not have glazing bars. The entrance features an architrave and cornice, along with paired two-panel doors. The area is enclosed by railings with spear heads. At the rear, there is a later range that includes a cupola on an octagonal drum, which lacks round-headed openings.
