Description

The George's Dock Ventilation and Central Control Station of the Mersey Road Tunnel is a ventilation station and offices built between 1925 and 1934, designed by Sir Basil Mott and J. A. Brodie with Herbert J. Rowse as the architect. It was constructed as part of the Mersey Road Tunnel and is made of Portland stone. The building features a rusticated ground floor, with tall recessed windows on the north and south sides that are flanked by relief sculptures. The west facade includes windows in the end bays and entrances, while the central block has an entrance flanked by niches that contain bronze figures. The east facade has three empty niches, and the paved areas to the north and south are bordered by retaining walls, rails, and lamp standards. Additionally, there are two square piers to the north with rusticated bases and banded caps.
