Description
The Church of St Michael is a church built between 1876 and 1877 by T.D. Barry & Son. It is constructed from rock-faced stone with red ashlar dressings and has a slate roof. The church features a nave with aisles that have lean-to roofs, transepts, a chancel, and chapels, along with a north-west tower. There is a gabled south porch at the entrance. The west end of the church has windows arranged in a 2:6:2 light pattern with geometrical tracery, while the aisles contain 2-light windows and a similar clerestory. The tower includes angle buttresses, a north entrance with a single order and a crocketed hood above a 2-light window, a three-faced clock, and three bell openings arranged in three orders. It also features a Lombard frieze, cornice, and an embattled parapet, along with gargoyles. The transepts are adorned with 4-light windows, and the canted chancel is flanked by gabled chapels, each with 3-light windows. This church is built on the site of two previous churches from the 13th and 18th centuries.
