Description

Marldon Chambers and Clarence Building, which includes 35 Lord Street, is an office building from the 1840s. It is constructed of stucco and features four storeys. The building has two bays facing Lord Street, a curved corner bay, fourteen bays along North John Street, and six bays on Harrington Street. The first thirteen bays create a symmetrical design, with slight variations in detail for Marldon Chambers.

The ground floor has 20th-century shop fronts, and the entrance to Marldon Chambers is marked by an entablature with a small pediment and the inscription "MARLDON CHAMBERS." The first and second floors display Corinthian pilasters and an entablature that transitions to engaged columns at the sixth to eighth bays. All windows are sash, with some featuring glazing bars. The windows of Marldon Chambers have architraves, while four first-floor windows are adorned with pediments on consoles, and others have panels above.

The top cornice features a pediment and antefixae, supported by panelled pilasters at the sixth to eighth bays, and a Greek gable with antefixae at the second to fourth bays. On Harrington Street, there is a three-bay centre that projects forward, showcasing rusticated quoins and a bracketed frieze and cornice. The entrance in the last bay is topped with a broken scrolled pediment. The facade on Lord Street mirrors the treatment of the North John Street elevation.
