Description
Yew Tree House is a building likely dating from the mid-17th century, with possible earlier elements. It is a simple rectangular house consisting of two rooms and a central passage, and it stands two storeys high. The walls are made of red sandstone, and it has a slate roof. The stone-mullioned windows are mostly four lights with chamfered mullions, and some original windows can still be seen on the rear wall.
Additional wings were constructed around 1780 and 1850 at the end and rear of the house, made of red brick with higher proportions, featuring horizontal sliding sashes and upright sashes. Inside, the older part of the house has low ceiling beams, and the staircase, likely from the 18th century, has had its turned balusters removed but not destroyed. Originally, this house served as a hunting lodge for the Earls of Derby.
