Description
The Red Pump Inn, a public house built in 1756 with a later addition from the late 18th century, features two distinct wings. The later wing, facing east, is constructed of pebble dashed rubble and has an imitation slate roof. It is designed with a double-pile central-entry plan and end stacks, standing two storeys tall. This section has projecting quoins, three bays, and sash windows with glazing bars set in plain stone surrounds. The entrance door also has a similar stone surround.
Adjoining the later wing at a right angle to the north is the earlier wing, made of squared sandstone rubble and topped with a stone slate roof. This wing projects towards the east and has a south wall with one bay that includes modern windows with plain reveals. Near the junction with the later wing, there is a plain stone door surround marked with 'TB 1756' on the lintel. A moulded stone gutter runs along the building, and there is a chimney on the gable as well as in the dividing wall with a former barn at the rear.
To the east, now part of the pub, is a single-storey building that was likely once a coach house. It features a wide entrance with a segmental arch, which is now glazed, and a gable with coping. Attached to the south wall of the 1756 wing is a pump, which has been fitted with a modern wooden casing. The pump includes an iron handle and a lead spout that projects from a lead plate, which is inscribed with 'JT 18-2'.
