Description
Rugglesmire Farmhouse is a house from the late 17th century, constructed of pebble dashed rubble with a stone slate roof. The building is arranged in an L-plan, with the main facades located in the inner angle of the L. It has two storeys. The windows feature an inner hollow chamfer and outer chamfer, with mullions, some of which have been restored. There is a continuous drip course at the ground floor level.
The north-east wing has a five-light window on the ground floor and two three-light windows on the first floor. To the right of this wing is a moulded doorway with a shaped lintel, above which the drip course rises and there is a framed opening for a datestone that is now blank. The south-east wing has a five-light window on the ground floor and a four-light window on the first floor. To the left of this wing is a modern extension that is in keeping with the original style. Chimneys are located on the gables of both wings.
At the rear of the south-east wing, there is another modern extension. The rear wall of the north-east wing features a gable to the right, beneath which are a three-light and a two-light window on the ground floor, a three-light window on the first floor, and a blocked attic window. To the left are two 17th-century windows, one of which has been restored.
Inside, the north-east wing contains a wide fireplace against its gable wall, which has a cyma-moulded segmental head, although the jambs have been repaired. The dog-leg stair, located towards the north-west in the angle between the wings, has two flights, a closed string, moulded square newels with large balls, turned balusters, and a deeply-moulded handrail.
