Description

Ashgrove Shaw Cottage dates to the 17th century. It is a two-story building, rendered in appearance. A gabled wing projects forward, featuring a chimney at its peak. The upper storey of this wing has a four-light window from the 17th century, protected by a dripmould. The window below has been replaced with an 18th-century window, though the original broad dripstone remains. To the left of the wing is a plain door and an 18th-century three-light window on the ground floor. The upper storey has a 17th-century three-light window over the door, again with a dripstone, and an early 18th-century five-light window to its left. There is also a section of storage premises built from stone. To the right, a 17th-century four-light window sits above an 18th-century three-light window. A late 19th-century glazed porch has been added to the right, along with two other 19th-century windows, each of two lights. Ashgrove Shaw Cottage is part of a group with numbers 49 to 67 (odd) on Shaw Bridge Street, considered to be buildings of local interest.
