Description

This is a row of ten small townhouses located at 6-15 St Ignatius Square, Preston, built around 1845-50 in two phases. The houses are constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. They follow a double-depth plan, with each house having a single frontage and individual rear extensions. Each house has two windows at the first floor level, over cellars. Features include a stone plinth, a deep band at the first floor, a plain frieze, and a moulded gutter cornice, with a vertical joint visible between numbers 9 and 10. The doorways are on the left side, each with a moulded stone architrave and a cornice resting on consoles with guttae. The ground floor windows have raised sills and wedge lintels with keystones, while first floor windows have raised sills. Most first-floor windows are sash windows, although those at numbers 6 and 8 have been altered. Ridge chimneys are present. The interior and rear of the properties have not been inspected.
