Description

Nos. 6 and 7 Chaddock Street are two small townhouses built around 1830, with some alterations. They are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring sandstone dressings and a slate roof. Each house has a double-depth plan and is single-fronted, with small back extensions and a through-lobby. The buildings are two storeys high with cellars and have a five-window range, characterized by a plain frieze and a moulded gutter cornice.

The doorways are positioned with four steps leading up to the left and two steps to the right. They feature round-headed architraves with set-in Tuscan quarter-columns, plain lintels, and semicircular fanlights with convex moulded surrounds, although the doors and fanlights have been altered. The lobby doorway has a wedge lintel and a board door. Each house has one window on the ground floor and two above, with sash windows that do not have glazing bars, except for the altered ground floor window of No. 6. There is a blind window in the centre of the first floor, aligned with the chimney stack. All windows have raised sills and wedge lintels, and there are casement cellar windows with wedge lintels and gratings. A large linear multiple-flue chimney stack is located at the junction of Nos. 6 and 7. The rear and interiors were not inspected, but No. 6 is reported to have a cellar under the front room with a slopstone. These houses are part of an almost complete set of late Georgian lower-middle class houses on this street.
