Description
Borwick Lodge is a house built in 1729. It features pebbledashed rubble and a slate roof, presenting a symmetrical design with two storeys and an attic, arranged in three bays. The windows are sashed with glazing bars, stone sills, and plain reveals. The door has a shouldered architrave with a pulvinated frieze, a false keystone, and a broken segmental pediment. Above the door is a roundel carved on a panel, inscribed with 'W T E 1729'. The central first-floor window is framed by Tuscan pilasters that support a semi-circular moulded head with a grooved keystone. This window is also sashed with glazing bars that intersect at the top. The rear wing contains sashed windows with glazing bars and plain reveals, along with a partly blocked doorway featuring chamfered rusticated jambs and two raised and fielded panels carved into its stone lintel. Inside, there is a dog-leg stair with four flights, a ramped mahogany handrail, and an open string, with two slim turned balusters on each tread. The right-hand room includes two round-headed cupboards with a cornice, each flanked by fluted Doric pilasters.
