Description

This is a mid-18th century house, later used as a consulting room, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with some quoins on the right side and ashlar dressings, topped with a slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan and originally comprised three bays. A prominent hollow-moulded eaves cornice and a timber gutter, supported by slender iron brackets, are key external features. The windows are set within raised, plain surrounds and feature 20th-century glazing bar, top-hung casements. The doorway, located in the right-hand bay, has a painted, raised plain surround and a recessed 19th-century twelve-panelled door that leads up two steps with nosings. Inside, an open-string staircase has undecorated scrolled brackets, two turned balusters per tread, a ramped handrail, and columnar newels. At the foot of the staircase is a single Doric pilaster with a fluted shaft.
