Description

25 Brock Street is a house that has been converted into offices. It was built in the early 19th century and has been altered since then. The building is made of sandstone ashlar and features a hipped slate roof. It has a single-depth, double-fronted layout facing Brock Street, with a return facade on the right side that faces Dalton Square. It is adjacent to No. 11, sharing a large chimney stack with 11 flues, which is now topped with brick.

The building stands three storeys high and has three bays on the Brock Street side, complete with a plinth, a first-floor sill band, and a prominent eaves cornice on both elevations. In the centre, three steps with nosings and rounded corners lead up to a doorway that has plain reveals and is topped by a stone cornice supported by consoles. The door is set back and features an overlight. To the left of the doorway is a shop window with console brackets dating from around 1900. The other windows have plain reveals and altered joinery, mostly consisting of 20th-century casements. The second-floor windows have projecting sills.

On the Dalton Square side, there are two more closely spaced bays, featuring sashed windows without glazing bars on the first floor, 20th-century casements on the second floor, and a recent shop window on the ground floor. Inside, there is a dogleg open-string staircase with scrolled brackets, two stick balusters per tread, a columnar newel, and a mahogany handrail, all of which are now painted white.
