Description

The Village Pound is a structure of uncertain age located in Arkholme-with-Cawood on Main Street. It is built from sandstone rubble and river cobbles. The pound is divided into two compartments, each shaped as an irregular quadrilateral and with walls approximately 1.5 metres high, mostly finished with flagstone coping. On the west side, there is an entrance to each compartment, with the southern entrance featuring a lintel. The jambs of the northern entrance extend upwards as rubble piers.
