Description
Golgotha is a row of three cottages with attached garden walls, built around 1800 and altered in the 20th century. The cottages are constructed from uncoursed sandstone rubble, with Nos. 3 and 4 now rendered and painted white. They have a composition tile roof and a rectangular double-depth plan, with each cottage being single-fronted. The front elevation features two storeys, while the rear has three storeys, with each cottage consisting of one bay.
No. 3 has its doorway on the right, which is now covered by a modern glazed porch, while Nos. 4 and 5 have their doorways on the left. Each cottage has one vertical-rectangular window on each floor, with the ground floor window of No. 5 being enlarged. Most windows have altered glazing, primarily top-hung casements. The cottages feature slender iron gutter brackets and two ridge chimney stacks with water-tabling, one of which is shared between Nos. 3 and 4.
At the rear, each cottage has a back door and one small window on each floor, with the second-floor window of No. 5 blocked. The attached garden walls at the front enclose rectangular gardens and are made of large coursed sandstone rubble, painted white, standing approximately 1 meter high with ridged coping. The cottages and garden walls are included for their group value.
