Description

Clintsfield Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with adjoining farm buildings from the late 17th century that have been altered. The farmhouse is constructed from sandstone rubble, with the front pebbledashed and a slate roof. It has a double-depth plan and is two storeys high with three bays. The windows feature plain stone surrounds and flat-faced mullions, with three lights on the ground floor and two lights above. The central bay contains a door with a plain stone surround, and there are gable chimneys. At the rear, there is a stair window with two transoms. Inside, the right-hand front room has a blocked shouldered fireplace.

To the left of the front of the house is a lower farm building, which was originally a 17th-century house. This building has a small window with plain reveals within a rebated and chamfered surround on the left, and a blocked one-light window, possibly a fire window, on the right. Between these is a window with plain reveals within a blocked doorway. On the first floor, there are two rebated and chamfered surrounds with external shutters. The gable of a barn projects forward on the left side and features a first-floor pitching door with plain reveals.

Inside the adjoining farm building, there are exposed ceiling joists, with two axial chamfered main joists supported at one end by a cambered chamfered firehood bressumer. The rear side of this farm building connects at right angles to a barn, which forms the western side of the farmyard and has lean-to additions against its front wall. Beneath a canopy formed by the lean-to, there is a wide entrance with a chamfered surround and a segmental arch featuring a keystone inscribed with 'AC 1689'. The rear wall of the barn has another wide entrance, and inside are eight trusses with tie beams and collars, some of which are now made of softwood.
