Description
The memorial cross, located approximately 10 metres west of St. Hubert's Church, was erected in 1888. It is made of stone and features a plinth with three large octagonal steps leading up to a square pedestal. The pedestal supports a moulded shaft topped with a crucifix. The base of the shaft is adorned with stone carvings on the sides, depicting an angel and three winged beasts. The pedestal itself has carved shields representing sacraments, a radiant cross, and the coats of arms of the Lomax family, along with lettering that is now mostly illegible. This lettering commemorates James Lomax KCSG, who died in 1886, Frances C.V. Lomax of Clayton Hall, who died in 1891, the Very Reverend William Dunderdale, and "those whose bodies lie buried in the cemetery." An inscription on the bottom step indicates that the cross was erected by members of the congregation in 1888.
