Description

The Lodge is a house, originally built in the later 18th century. It is constructed of brick, with a painted white facade and a slate roof. The house follows a double-depth, five-bay plan. It is two storeys high with attics, and displays a symmetrical design. A central door is sheltered by a porch supported by two Tuscan columns and two semi-columns, topped with a flat cornice. Four windows are located on the ground floor, and five above, all featuring segmental-headed 12-pane sashes. An integral chimney is situated at the left gable, while two projecting chimney stacks are present at the right gable. A low, two-storey extension with a hipped lean-to roof adjoins the left end, with a ground-floor door and a continuing screen wall to the left. The left gable features sashed windows with stone lintels, and two small attic windows, one with very small panes. The rear elevation includes a central stairwell light; only the upper two stages are now visible. A latrine turret is located beside the stairwell, beneath a carried-down roof. There are boxed 12-pane sashes on each side at the first floor, although the rear is otherwise altered.
