Description
The barn at Grange Farm, dated 1739, is constructed of coursed sandstone with a stone slate roof. Originally consisting of four bays, it has been extended by one bay at the north end. The fourth bay is set back, while the third bay features opposed wagon doorways. The first two bays are lofted, with the first bay having a ground floor window and a first floor loading door, and the second bay containing a small window and a board door. There are tie plates beside and above the wagon doors. The left gable end has three doors, with the rightmost door altered to function as a sliding garage door. At the first floor, there is a square datestone with the initials "I:A" and the year "1739" in relief, along with an attic window. Two iron tie plates are located at the first floor level, and there are two corner tie plates on each side. The barn also features various ventilation slits, and the rear wall has a square opening at ground floor level with a splayed stone head. Inside, there is a stone partition between the second and third bays topped by a brick arch, some original standings in the first two bays, and roof trusses with kingposts and fishbone struts.
