Description
The Old Stables Cafe, located approximately 50 meters north of Towneley Hall, is a stable and coach house that dates back to around 1790 and was converted into a cafe in 1951. It is constructed from coursed squared sandstone and features a hipped slate roof with a rectangular plan. The building has two storeys and four windows. On the ground floor, there are segmental-headed wagon doorways beneath the first three windows, which have all been filled with glazed screens. The first floor is adorned with 16-pane unhorned sash windows. There is one ridge chimney positioned off to the right. The left side of the building has a flight of external steps, while the right side features coupled wagon doorways similar to those at the front, along with two first-floor windows that have altered glazing. The interior has been altered as well. The Old Stables Cafe forms a group with Towneley Hall and the Craft Museum.
