Description
Hollins Farmhouse is a coachhouse and stable block, likely dating from 1818, and later converted into a house. It originally served Hollins Hall and has been altered since its construction. The building is built of watershot coursed sandstone with quoins, and has a three-span stone slate roof. The original design featured a central recessed wagon entrance flanked by gabled wings, but the centre has since been built up flush with the wings. The building is two storeys high and designed in a Jacobean style, mirroring Hollins Hall on a smaller scale. The front displays three gables; each wing has a blocked Tudor-arched doorway near the outer corner, a tall mullioned window of four round-headed lights at ground floor, a recessed sash window at first floor (with 12 panes on the left wing and 15 on the right), a small circular window in the gable apex, stone gable coping with kneelers, and an apex ball finial. The narrower centre section features a chamfered doorway with a panelled door and a three-pane rectangular fanlight, along with smaller matching openings above. All openings are topped with hoodmoulds. A tall tripartite window is present on the left return wall at ground floor, with a smaller window towards the rear of the first floor. The right return wall includes a small, single-storey wing with a gable chimney, likely once a washhouse. Large chimney stacks are located on the rear gables of the wings. The building is listed for its group value, relating to its association with Hollins Hall.
