Description

Nos. 2-6 Gawthorpe Street are houses built around 1842 for the Shuttleworth family of Gawthorpe Hall, possibly designed by Sir Charles Barry. They are made of rendered rubble with ashlar dressings, though much of the original material has been repaired and simplified in cement. The houses are two storeys high and consist of one bay each. Originally, all doorways and windows featured surrounds with jambs made of alternating longer and shorter stones. They have a moulded eaves cornice that supports the gutter, and gable parapets between the houses are carried on moulded kneelers. No original doors or windows remain. These houses are included for their group value.
