Description
The former Lloyds Bank, located at the junction with Tatton Road, was built in 1902 by Thomas Worthington and Son. This building features a combination of ashlar, brick, and a green slate roof. It is designed in a Jacobean style and consists of three by three bays, with two storeys plus an attic and a two-storey porch.
The building has a projecting plinth, an ashlar ground floor, and quoins. The porch, located in the first bay, showcases superimposed orders with an arched doorway flanked by three-quarter columns on the ground floor. Above, there is a three-light mullion and transom window flanked by pilasters, topped with a coped gable and a ball finial. The second and third bays each feature semi-elliptical headed three-light windows with pilasters on the ground floor, while the first floor boasts a five-light mullion and transom oriel window adorned with three elaborately carved cartouches, along with a coped gable that includes a four-light attic window. All upper floor windows have leaded lights, and the building is equipped with elaborate cast iron rainwater goods.
There are a total of four large chimney stacks, each with stone cornices and bands. The side elevation mirrors the treatment of bay one, while bays two and three project on the upper floor and are supported by shaped stone brackets.
The interior remains largely intact and is noted for its imposing composition and high-quality craftsmanship.
