ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE MARKET PLACE SJ 99 NW (north side) 4/19 That part of the Civic Offices which was formerly the Water Board Offices (formerly listed as Water Board Offices) 12/01/67

Includes No. 42 Warrington Street (east side). Offices. c.1840 but completely reconstructed with a steel-framed structure in C20. Ashlar. 5 x 8 bays with 3 storeys. Projecting plinth, sill bands, eaves cornice with blocking course. Door in bay 2 with flat hood and pilasters. Door in bays 6 and 7 (and one on left return) with architraves and console brackets supporting flat hoods. Large elliptical- headed window in bay 4 with rusticated surround and dropped keystone. A carved lion centrally surmounts the blocking course. Other details are restrained, the sash windows being in plain openings.
