Description

Stockport Infirmary, built in 1832 and designed by architect Richard Lane, is a significant building constructed in ashlar. It has two storeys and a basement, along with a modern attic storey. The ground floor features channelled rustication. The central entrance is marked by a Greek Doric tetrastyle portico, which includes a full entablature and a pediment that contains a clock face. The windows are arranged in a pattern of 2-8-3-8-2. There are advanced wings on either side, each topped with a pediment adorned with laurel wreath ornamentation, as well as a frieze and parapet. Early 20th-century additions can be found on the right side of the building. Stockport Infirmary is part of a visual group with the Town Hall.
