SJ8498 CORPORATION STREET 698-1/17/72 (East side) Cooperative Wholesale Society building to north of junction with Hanover Street

Warehouse and office block. 1928, by W.A.Johnson. Sandstone ashlar (roof concealed). Rectangular plan. Classical style. Five unequal storeys plus double attic storey; channelled rustication to ground and 1st floors, giant pilastrade to 2nd-4th floors, modillioned cornice; parapet to 1st attic storey, mansard roof with dormers. Symmetrical, with central round-headed entrance arch, and large round-headed windows at ground floor with radiating glazing bars; rectangular mezzanine windows to 1st floor; 3-light windows to upper floors, , the 3rd and 4th floors divided by panelled bands. Small-pane glazing to all windows. Returned sides similar. Interior not inspected. Forms group with Cooperative Wholesale Society building to south (q.v.).
