Description

The milestone, located on the eastern side of Wilmslow Road, dates from the mid to late 19th century and is made of whitewashed stone. It has a triangular shape with a sloping top, featuring incised black lettering on the west side that reads 'Withington'. The two faces below display additional incised black lettering; the left face indicates '8 ¼ /Miles to/ Wilmslow', while the right face states '4/ Miles to/ Manchester/ to/ Centre of/ St Anns/Square'. The left face shows some minor damage at the bottom, and the word 'Square' on the right face is eroded but still partially legible.
