Description
Waterloo Place is a terraced row of seven townhouses, now used as offices, built in 1832 and altered since. The buildings are constructed of red brick with some sandstone dressings and feature slate roofs. Each house has a double-depth plan and is single-fronted, with individual back extensions. They rise two storeys over cellars and consist of 21 bays, with three windows for each house. The design includes a stone plinth, a first-floor band, and a moulded eaves cornice, although houses 176 to 182 have an added mansard attic. Each house features a wide round-headed doorway on the right, framed by a set-in doorcase with slender Tuscan columns, an entablature, and a mutule cornice. The doors are panelled, with fanlights that have elegant fan-like tracery, except for No. 186, which has a plain door. The windows are 12-pane sashed with raised sills and flat-arched heads. The rear and interior of the buildings were not inspected.
