Description
Numbers 184 and 186 on Deansgate in Manchester were built in 1896. No. 184 was formerly the Inland Revenue office, while No. 186 served as the High Court Registry, with renovations or conversions taking place at the time of the survey. The buildings are constructed of ashlar and feature a slate roof, with a trapeziform plan on an end-of-block site. They rise three storeys above a basement and have an 18-window range. Notable architectural features include sill-bands, a modillioned cornice topped with balustrading and small pediments—one of which displays carved Royal Arms. The ground floor is distinguished by arched windows with hoodmoulds and rusticated pilasters. There is a doorway on the left with a voluted pediment on consoles set within an arched recess, and another doorway on the right with coupled pilasters and an entablature topped by a blind balustrade. The upper floors are adorned with sashed windows that have moulded architraves. The interior has not been inspected.
