Description
The Fallowfield War Memorial is a stone cross memorial located prominently in the churchyard of the Holy Innocents Church, at the intersection of Wilbraham Road and Wilmslow Road.
The memorial features a large rectangular base that supports a smaller sloping plinth. Above this is a long, tapered shaft designed in a Celtic style, with intricate engravings on each side. At the top of the memorial is a detailed Celtic-style wheel-cross.
The plinth displays the names of 16 fallen individuals, with the south face inscribed: "IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE TWO WORLD WARS 1914-1918 1939-1945."
In front of the memorial, on the south side, there is a stone tablet that includes an integral bronze plaque. This plaque lists 72 names of those who died during the First World War and bears the inscription: "IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN FROM FALLOWFIELD WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919."
