Description

This is a late 19th-century paper warehouse, now used as offices, situated on Harter Street in Manchester. The building has a trapezoidal plan and is constructed of red brick with sandstone dressings, although the roof is concealed. It stands four storeys high with a basement and attic, and has 4 bays, featuring 2 windows per bay. The ground floor has a stone plinth and prominent stone cornices above the ground and third floors. There are giant arcades to the upper floors, with the attic treated as a high parapet. The ground floor is banded and originally featured a pedimented doorway at the left end, which has now been reduced to a window. A window is located to the right, with a doorway inserted beneath it. All windows on the ground floor are sash windows with keyed heads, flanked by pendents extending from the cornice. The upper floors feature pairs of sash windows without glazing bars on the first and second floors, and large semi-circular windows with small panes in the heads on the third floor. The attic has arcaded, 3-light sash windows. The left return wall is similarly detailed. The rear of the building and its interior have not been inspected. The building forms a group with number 12 to the south.
