Description

The Bridgewater Canal basin at Potato Wharf in Manchester is a canal basin likely constructed between 1760 and 1765 by James Brindley for the Duke of Bridgewater. It branches off the north side of the Bridgewater Canal near the Castlefield terminus and is lined with stone blocks. This canal basin is part of a group that includes the circular overflow basin to the east, known as Giant's Basin, and the Castlefield Railway Viaduct.
