Description

Gladstone's Statue is a Grade II listed statue of W.E. Gladstone, who was a Liberal statesman and Prime Minister from 1809 to 1898. The statue was created in 1901 by W. Theed, Jr. It features a polished granite pedestal set on a sandstone base. The base is octagonal and consists of two steps, leading up to a moulded octagonal plinth that supports the straight-sided pedestal. The pedestal has large inverted consoles at the corners and a carved frieze. The statue depicts Gladstone standing in a pose of declamation, with one hand raised and pointing.
