Description
The Ashworth grave slab, dating from the 17th century, is made of sandstone and is rectangular in shape. It is located on the south side of the Church of St Mary. The slab features incised carvings, including a decorative border and a large scroll motif at the foot, with a heart motif above it. The inscription on the slab reads: "HERE RESTETH THE BODIES OF/ KATHERINE THE WIFE OF/ ROBERT ASHWORTH OF/ BROVGHTON BVRIED AVGVST/ THE 10 1668/ ELIZABETH ASHWORTH THE/ DAVGHTER OF ROBERT ASHW/ ORTH OF BROVGHTON FVLLER/ BVRIED THE 13 OF IANVARY/ 1658/ AND JOHN ASHWORTH THE/ SONNE OF ROBERT ASHWORTH/ OF BROVGHTON FVLLER BVRIED/ THE 16 OF OCTOBER/ 1666."
