Description
Haulgh Cottage is a house built in 1836, now used as a residential home. It is constructed of coursed and squared stone, partly rendered, with a slate roof. The house has two storeys and five windows, with an entrance in the gable facing the street and the main facade facing the garden. A gabled entrance porch displays the date "1836" within a shield. The design is balanced but asymmetrical, with two advanced gabled bays alternating with one and two-window ranges. The left-hand advanced gable features a canted bay window to the ground floor with mullioned and transomed lights, and a renewed upper window in an original opening, with a drop-ended hoodmould above. The right-hand gable has a three-light mullioned and transomed window to the ground floor and a two-light mullioned window above. Between these gables is a two-window range with three-light mullioned and transomed ground floor windows, and mullioned upper windows with drop-ended hoodmoulds. A dormer gable sits above the right-hand window. To the left of the left-hand gable is a single-window range with a mullioned and transomed lower window, a mullioned upper window, and a dormer gable above, both with hoodmoulds. Where original upper windows remain, they have arched lights. The building has overhanging eaves and end and axial stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
